About us

The Royal Oak is situated in the picturesque village of Wetton in the heart of the peak district…

We are a family run small village restaurant with only a handful of staff on board. We are proud to offer real home-made food, real cask ales and a range of fine wines. We prefer bookings where possible as this helps us to manage our stock levels much better and know just how much of our delicious homemade dishes to prepare.

The Royal Oak inn has been here for over 400 years and we have a list of landlords dating back to 1760.

We have been here since October 2018 and have already done lots to the pub without taking away the charisma and so still boasts lots of character & charm…

So if you haven’t already visited us, don’t take our word for it, come see for yourself and you won’t be disappointed. If you have already visited us, you already know nothing is too much trouble and we will do our absolute best to accommodate you.

We feel it’s the small things that matter!

More about The Oak

The Royal Oak is set in the heart of the Peak District.

Our quirky pub dates back to mid 1700's and we have lots of history including a full list of previous landlords dating back to 1760!

We have been here since October 2018 working hard to give all our customers the very best experience.

We are set in the white peaks area of the Peak District National Park where you can enjoy some of the most beautiful walks in the English countryside. We are just a cock stride from Thor’s cave and minutes away from Buxton, Bakewell, Hulme End, Ecton, Ilam, Alstonfield, Dove Dale, Matlock and for the more adventurous less than 30 minutes drive from Alton Towers…

Our evening menu contains delicious real homemade dishes that have been specially prepared in our own kitchen for you to enjoy.

Our kitchen is open from 12pm for lunch, just perfect before, between or after a long walk. So if you are just visiting or staying in the area then pop in and you won’t be disappointed.

"The food was amazing cooked to perfection the staff were very nice and the place was very nice and fancy"

"Food was amazing cooked to perfection the two people on the bar and serving were really friendly and helpful amazing experience a must go for food and drinks thank you very much"

"My husband and I enjoyed a week away in the Peak District. I looked for pubs to enjoy a meal before we left home. We enjoyed a meal at a pub the 1st evening and then arrived at this pub to see how it compares. No comparison! It's off the beaten track, a lovely country pub delivering excellent service and the most mouth watering meals. My husband had a home made beautiful tomato soup and I enjoyed the very cheesy garlic bread for starters. Main course were the home made steak burgers, oh my god! Delicious . To finish we had sticky toffee pudding. I didn't manage to finish mine I was so full up! We met the chef and knowing where he used to work I'm not surprised by the quality of everything we had. We enjoyed it so much we decided to return The second meal was just as superb. Please remember to book online what with Covid and the menu is viewed on their website, no issue at all. However the owners will print you a copy off if no phone. A wonderful friendly, efficient, delicious family run pub that we would return to when in the area again."

"We went here on whim after visiting Thors's Cave. There was a short wait for a table due to social distancing but when seated staff were very friendly and catering to all our requests. The food was incredible and I would strongly recommendation the steak pie. If your ever visiting Wetton, we'll worth a trip here."
