Diane & Richard are proud to offer real home-made food, real cask ales, gorgeous en-suite letting rooms, situated in the picturesque village of Wetton in the heart of the peak district…

The Royal Oak inn has been here for over 400 years and we have a list of landlords dating back to 1760.

We have been here for 3 years and have already done lots to the pub without taking away the charisma and so still boasts lots of character & charm…

So if you haven’t already visited us, Don’t take our word for it, come see for yourself and you won’t be disappointed. If you have already visited us, you already know nothing is too much trouble and we will do our absolute best to accommodate you.

We feel it’s the small things that matter!

Our rooms

As our guest you will be automatically allocated a table in our lounge, where you can eat & drink and when you have had enough just slip off to your own private room with a bottle…

Rooms start from just £85 per night and includes a full English breakfast and as much tea & coffee as you want! We are sorry however we do not allow dogs in the rooms.

About The Oak

Our beautiful pub

Welcome to The Royal Oak in the heart of the Peak District. We have been here since October 2018 working hard to give all our customers the very best experience.

Our quirky pub dates back to mid 1700's and we have lots of history including a full list of previous landlords dating back to 1760!

We are set in the white peaks area of the Peak District National Park where you can enjoy some of the most beautiful walks in the English countryside. We are just a cock stride from Thor’s cave and minutes away from Buxton, Bakewell, Hulme End, Ecton, Ilam, Alstonfield, Dove Dale, Matlock and for the more adventurous less than 30 minutes drive from Alton Towers…

Our menu contains delicious real homemade dishes that have been specially prepared in our own kitchen for you to enjoy. Just perfect before, between or after a long walk. So if you are just visiting or staying in the area then pop in and you won’t be disappointed. We look forward to seeing you soon.

Our Covid-19 Safety Measures…

During lockdown, we have been working hard to put extra measures into place for when we can open again. We have also been busy with lots of deep cleaning and redecorating.

When we open, we will continue to follow the governments guidelines and ask that you help us to achieve a safe environment for everyone to enjoy. As always, we are committed to ensure that we take all necessary measures to keep our customers and staff as safe as possible.

We have been working on new waterproof menus that can be wiped clean, we kindly ask that you do not pass your menu to another customer, but instead return it to a member of staff once you are ready to order so that we can sanitise it ready for our next customer to use.

Our tables have been laid out to keep to the social distancing rules and as such have limited tables inside. Our lovely pub offers cosy dining with a safe distance between our tables and therefore at present dogs are welcomed in the beer garden only, where they can enjoy plenty of space. On quiet days and at our discretion, we may invite you and your dog into our bar area should we feel that no other guests’ safety will be compromised. On these occasions you will be asked to keep your dog on a lead and with you under your own table.

We will continue to operate as table service, where you will be treated and pampered. So please feel free to relax and let us take care of you.

Hand sanitisers are always at hand and customers & staff are continuously encouraged to use them.

We kindly ask that if you have had any of the symptoms or if you feel unwell at all, that you do not visit us.

Customer reviews

"The food was amazing cooked to perfection the staff were very nice and the place was very nice and fancy"

"Food was amazing cooked to perfection the two people on the bar and serving were really friendly and helpful amazing experience a must go for food and drinks thank you very much"

"My husband and I enjoyed a week away in the Peak District. I looked for pubs to enjoy a meal before we left home. We enjoyed a meal at a pub the 1st evening and then arrived at this pub to see how it compares. No comparison! It's off the beaten track, a lovely country pub delivering excellent service and the most mouth watering meals. My husband had a home made beautiful tomato soup and I enjoyed the very cheesy garlic bread for starters. Main course were the home made steak burgers, oh my god! Delicious . To finish we had sticky toffee pudding. I didn't manage to finish mine I was so full up! We met the chef and knowing where he used to work I'm not surprised by the quality of everything we had. We enjoyed it so much we decided to return The second meal was just as superb. Please remember to book online what with Covid and the menu is viewed on their website, no issue at all. However the owners will print you a copy off if no phone. A wonderful friendly, efficient, delicious family run pub that we would return to when in the area again."

"We went here on whim after visiting Thors's Cave. There was a short wait for a table due to social distancing but when seated staff were very friendly and catering to all our requests. The food was incredible and I would strongly recommendation the steak pie. If your ever visiting Wetton, we'll worth a trip here."
