About us

The Royal Oak is situated in the picturesque village of Wetton in the heart of the peak district…

We are a family run small village restaurant and we are proud to offer real home-made food, real cask ales and gorgeous en-suite letting rooms.

The Royal Oak inn has been here for over 400 years and we have a list of landlords dating back to 1760.

We have been here since October 2018 and have already done lots to the pub without taking away the charisma and so still boasts lots of character & charm…

So if you haven’t already visited us, don’t take our word for it, come see for yourself and you won’t be disappointed. If you have already visited us, you already know nothing is too much trouble and we will do our absolute best to accommodate you.

We feel it’s the small things that matter!

Our rooms

Relax in the bar and treat yourself to a well-deserved get away in the beautiful peak district and stay in our gorgeous brand new en-suite double bedrooms!

Enjoy a meal with a nice glass of wine or pint and when you have had enough just slip off to your own private room with a bottle…

We are sorry however we do not allow dogs in the rooms.

Do we have a beer garden?

Yes we do, we have a lovely sun trap beer garden overlooking great views of the peak district.

Do we have heated under cover dining outside?

Yes we absolutely do, so whether you like to sit indoors or outdoors, what ever the weather we can accommodate you.

Do we accept dogs?

Yes we do. However, we are sorry we can not guarantee tables for guests inside that have a dog, but we will do our best to accommodate. We do also welcome dogs in the beer garden and in the under cover dining area.

We kindly request that dogs are kept on a lead at all times and not allowed to roam freely or on any furniture.

Do I need to book for a meal?

Yes please, our preferred method of reserving a table is online, please follow the links on our website. However we do accept reservations by phone. At busy times please leave a message and we will get back to you when we can.

We also accept walk-ins however, we can get extremely busy over the summer months so should you wish to dine with us, we do highly recommend that your reserve a table to avoid disappointment. This means we can also bring in additional help should we get busy. During the winter months this helps us to know what amount of stock to order & prepare to reduce our wastage and to keep our prices competitive.

Can I cancel or change my reservation?

Yes absolutely, we completely understand that sometimes guests need to cancel a reservation. However, we kindly request that 24 hours notice is given so that we can allocate a table to another guest. By using our online reservation platform, this also allows a guest to cancel an upcoming reservation or to simply move it to a different day or time.

When are you open for food?

Our kitchen opens at 12pm and then again at 6pm. Please see our opening times for more information using the link at the top of our page. For more information on table reservations please see Table Reservations below

Do I need to tell you in advance should I have a special dietary requirement?

"The food was amazing cooked to perfection the staff were very nice and the place was very nice and fancy"

"Food was amazing cooked to perfection the two people on the bar and serving were really friendly and helpful amazing experience a must go for food and drinks thank you very much"

"My husband and I enjoyed a week away in the Peak District. I looked for pubs to enjoy a meal before we left home. We enjoyed a meal at a pub the 1st evening and then arrived at this pub to see how it compares. No comparison! It's off the beaten track, a lovely country pub delivering excellent service and the most mouth watering meals. My husband had a home made beautiful tomato soup and I enjoyed the very cheesy garlic bread for starters. Main course were the home made steak burgers, oh my god! Delicious . To finish we had sticky toffee pudding. I didn't manage to finish mine I was so full up! We met the chef and knowing where he used to work I'm not surprised by the quality of everything we had. We enjoyed it so much we decided to return The second meal was just as superb. Please remember to book online what with Covid and the menu is viewed on their website, no issue at all. However the owners will print you a copy off if no phone. A wonderful friendly, efficient, delicious family run pub that we would return to when in the area again."

"We went here on whim after visiting Thors's Cave. There was a short wait for a table due to social distancing but when seated staff were very friendly and catering to all our requests. The food was incredible and I would strongly recommendation the steak pie. If your ever visiting Wetton, we'll worth a trip here."
