About us
Diane & Gary welcome you to The Royal Oak and we are situated in a small picturesque village of Wetton, in the heart of the peak district. We are a walker’s pub and are proud to offer real homemade food and proper hand-cut chips! So, leave the dishes to us while you relax and enjoy our homemade food!
We are set in the white peaks area of the Peak District National Park where you can enjoy some of the most beautiful walks in the English countryside. We are just a cock stride from Thor’s cave and minutes away from Buxton, Bakewell, Hulme End, Ecton, Ilam, Alstonfield, Dove Dale, Matlock and for the more adventurous less than 30 minutes drive from Alton Towers…
The pub has been here for over 400 years and we have a list of landlords dating back to 1700’s. We have been here since October 2018 and have already done lots to the pub without taking away the charisma and so still boasts lots of character & charm
We are a small family run business with only a handful of staff on board including son Dan & daughter Zara. We welcome both diners & drinkers and of course we are doggie friendly. We just ask for dogs to be on a lead and kept off our furniture. At peak times we can get extremely busy and so reservations for food is highly recommended to avoid any disappointment, plus this helps us to manage our stock levels much better and know just how much of our delicious homemade dishes to prepare and how many staff to bring in!
We accept both online reservations and telephone reservations, however at busy times we may struggle to answer the phone as we are busy looking after our lovely guests. So please leave a message and we will get back to you when we can.
We will of course do our best to accommodate walk in guests where we can, so if you haven’t already visited us, don’t take our word for it, come see for yourself and you won’t be disappointed. If you have already visited us, you already know nothing is too much trouble and we will do our absolute best to accommodate you.
Our kitchen
Many of you know already that we serve freshly made homecooked pub food, made in our own kitchen using our very own recipes with passion & love. We offer a wide range of tasty dishes including dishes for vegan and gluten free. Our handmade burgers are made on site and we offer beef, pork, chorizo & chilli, minted lamb & veggie burgers, our signature Steak & ale pot pie is a must and filled to the brim with slow cooked rump steak in titanic plum porter gravy. Plus, many more mouth-watering dishes to choose from including our own family recipe Beef lasagne in a rich and tangy red wine bolognaise sauce topped with creamy cheese white wine sauce and then of course our chicken ham & leek pot pie, which is to die for. Not forgetting our fish pot pie oozing with smoked haddock & prawns in a creamy lemon and white wine sauce. We also have fresh juicy steaks & seabass delivered daily! We are certain you won’t be disappointed as there is plenty to choose from on our menu!
Last orders for food is usually 15 minutes before kitchen close so if you are wanting to dine with us, we recommend arriving no later than 30 minutes before our kitchen close time, our opening times can be found on our website. It’s also worth noting that on quiet days we may close up early, so best to book so we know to expect you.
Our bar
Whilst we welcome drinkers, we are predominantly a food hub for tourists and guests staying locally. You are more than welcome to have just drinks and we don’t have a set time for closing. We offer a range of cold draft beers, ales, both premium & budget lager & cider. With a good selection on both red and white wines, we have budget wines and also a more expensive wines to choose from. For all the gin lovers, we also have a good selection of gins to try.
The bar closes when we are quiet or empty. However, during the busy summer months we do stay open for longer! For large groups wishing to stay for drinks after the kitchen is closed then please let us know in advance and we can bring in additional staff, so that we can accommodate you.
We look forward to seeing you all soon 😊
